FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my final charge different from my estimate?

When you get a quote or estimate from Elite Moving via phone or website, we are using software to help us quote how much your move will cost.  Some of the factors that we use include the size of your home, number of floors in your home, square footage, types of items, weight of items, number of movers requested, average time it take to move each specific item, and much more. However, the final estimate provided is not the final price.  Your final price will be based on the actual time it takes for our crew to complete your move.  You can view our hourly breakdowns on our pricing page to have a better understanding of how we charge for moving and packing services.

Why should I hire a professional mover?

Hiring a professional mover delivers unprecedented value and alleviates stress on a big day. Moving can be draining, both physically and emotionally. Additionally, handling large and bulky items with care requires specific moving skills. Turning to professionals for this task is similar to many other household needs, like plumbing and electricity.

How much will the move cost me?

We base our estimates for a local move on an hourly rate, which includes the drive time for each leg of the move:
- from the moving company to your original home
- then to your destination, and
- back again to the moving company

Pricing for a long-distance move is based on a flat rate, fixed price. Once we have taken an inventory of your furniture and other belongings and identified a timeframe for delivery, we are happy to provide a binding price for your move.

What other expenses should I anticipate?

You shouldn't anticipate any hidden costs with Elite Moving Service Co. That said, you should also budget for packing supplies, such as moving boxes and tape, and for additional valuation (moving insurance) as needed.

Should I tip the movers?

Just like with other service industries, you may wish to express gratitude to your movers for a job well done by offering a gratuity.

Movers don't expect a specific tip amount. We suggest tipping an amount based on your satisfaction with the crew and the move as a whole. The broad guideline for tipping movers is $4-$6 per crew member, per hour.

If you feel your movers went above and beyond in their efforts, you may want to increase that amount accordingly.

Do I need to empty my filing cabinets?

When the cabinets are made of metal or plastic, two-drawer filing cabinets can be left full. The top two drawers of a 4-drawer cabinet need to be emptied. All lateral file cabinets need to be emptied entirely.

Can I leave clothing in my drawers?

It is generally fine to leave your clothing in your dresser drawers during the move. Be sure to remove anything from the drawers that may roll around or shift during transport, as this can cause damage. If the dresser is particularly large (a triple dresser or part of a large armoire), it is best to empty it partially.

Do I need to do anything to prepare my appliances for my move?

It would help if you made sure your dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, washing machine, and dryer are empty. Additionally, movers are not trained electricians or plumbers–-you need to arrange for the appropriate professional to disconnect your washer, lighting, and refrigerator from any electric and/or water connection. Additionally, movers are not licensed to disconnect gas, which powers many dryers and ovens.

Are there any items you won't move?

We will not move hazardous or combustible items such as propane tanks, firearms, paint, and aerosols, as the temperature in the truck could cause these items to explode or ignite.

How will the movers know what to move and what to leave?

When the movers first arrive, they will do a walkthrough of your current home with you, confirming which items are going and which are not.

Is it possible to move during inclement weather?

Yes. Our professional movers and moving trucks are prepared to move during rain, sleet, or snow. They come equipped with supplies to keep your belongings safe from the elements. However, to keep costs down, we recommend you shovel, rake, or otherwise clear the access ways in preparation for their arrival.
